Železný Brod is a town in North Bohemia that is a crossroads for tourist trips to the Krkonoše Mountains, the Jizera Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise.

In 2024, it was home to about 1,400 people, with 6,000 in the larger municipal area.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the glassmaking industry boomed with the development of glass production and grinding mills. In 1920, the first Czech professional glassmaking school was opened.

Železný Brod is located in the valley of the Jizera River in the southwest of the Krkonoše foothills . The municipal area of Železný Brod includes parts of the protected landscape area of the Bohemian Paradise and the natural monuments of Na Vápenice.

[edit]- The Neo-Renaissance town hall was built in 1890. The Town Theatre and the Town Gallery of Vlastimil Rada are both located within the town hall building.
- 1 Church of St. James the Greater (Kostel svatého Jakuba Většího). The church was built in 1649, its current appearance dates from the second half of the 18th century, when a new wooden bell tower was also built at the church. The church has an ossuary from 1765, a rectory from 1723, and a stone staircase leading from the Small Square to the church, which was completely rebuilt in 1940. It is lined with Baroque sandstone statues of St. Anne, Our Lady of Karlovy Vary and St. John of Nepomuk. Behind the church, near the sacristy, there is a carved sandstone reconciliation cross.
- 2 Secondary School of Applied Arts and Glassmaking (Střední uměleckoprůmyslová škola sklářská), Smetanovo zátiší 470. The building dates back to 1920. It was built to support the development of the glassmaking industry at the time.
- The cinema building was built in 1964. The lead architect was Karel Hubáček, who designed, among other things, architectural gems such as the Ještěd transmitter building or the Máj Cinema in Doksy . The cinema operates as the KC KINO Cultural Center.
- 3 Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk (Kaple svatého Jana Nepomuckého). A Baroque sacral building on a hill south of the city in a location called "Na poušti". It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic
- The Trávníky district is situated at the confluence of the Jizera and Žernovka. It is remarkable for a set of folk architecture monuments, formed by old Neoclassical and timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Among the most valuable houses are the Empire houses called Grosovsko and Knopovsko. The Church of Saint James the Great in Trávníky was built at the end of the 17th century, the wooden belfry next to the church dates from 1761. There is also the Mini-museum of glass nativity scenes.
