    Akhty is a beautiful mountain village of about 15,000 people with a historic quarter and museum in Dagestan. It is one of the important cultural and tourist centers of Dagestan. Tourists are attracted generally by tue healing mineral springs.

    Akhty Fortress

    Akhty in the very south of the Republic of Dagestan, in the valley of the Samur River, at the confluence of the Akhtychay River. It is set in a valley surrounded by gray rocky treeless mountains, between the mountain peaks.

    The Samur River flows along the northern part of Akhta. The Akhtychay River divides Akhty in half, flowing from south to north, and flows into Samur within the village. The old quarters of Akhty are located on the slopes of Mount Kelezkhev, and on the opposite side of the Akhtychay River. The later part of the village is in the flat part, between the ridges, in the Samur valley. Two horticultural and residential zones stretch 2-3 km up the banks of the Akhtychay.

    Summers are warm, dry, characterized by moderate heat, stifling heat and heat, as in the plain, this area is not typical. Sunny weather is observed up to 65%, of which 19% falls on hot and dry weather. Winters are mild, the average January temperature is 1.3 °C; moderately frosty days make up 25%, days with a transition over 0 ° - 50%. Autumn is warm and dry. The average annual temperature is 10.8 ºС. The duration of sunshine is the longest in Dagestan - 2,553 hours a year. The weather in Akhty is usually calm, the air is clean and transparent, the air humidity is low.

    Akhta can only be reached by land transport. Regularly from the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, Makhachkala, buses leave from the city's southern bus station. Also, the bus in the morning, at 07:00, departs from Kaspiysk. The fare is from 300 to 400 rubles one way. The travel time from these cities to Akhty is 3-4 hours, depending on the speed at which the driver travels.

    Alternatively, you can reach the village by car on your own. Distance from Makhachkala 250 km.

    The nearest airport to Akhta is Uytash (Makhachkala) (MCX  IATA).

    The nearest railway station, Belidji, is 102 km away.

    • Akhtyn fortress: founded in 1839, it served as the location of the Akhtyn garrison of the tsarist troops. The fortress was besieged by the troops of Imam Shamil in 1849.
    • Akhtyn Museum of Local Lore: containing over 12,000 exhibits and recognized as the best rural museum of the former USSR.
    • Akhtyn Museum of Culture and Art: the only regional museum of culture and art in Dagestan. Contains over 10,000 exhibits.

    • Monuments to Askar Khasbulat-Sarydzha, Valentin Emirov, Tagir Khryugsky and Mukhtadir Aydinbekov.
