Anholt is a small Danish island in Kattegat, east of Jutland. The island has 145 permanent inhabitants, and receive many thousands of visitors for summer.
Understand
[edit]Anholt is one of Denmark's most isolated islands, half-way between Sweden and Jutland.
Get in
[edit]Take the ferry from Grenaa.
You can also sail there in your own boat, and dock at the marina. This is popular in the summer, so be sure there is a free spot beforehand.
Get around
[edit]Though possible, it is very difficult to bring your own car and motorvehicle to Anholt, unless you are handicapped. You can bring your bicycles along without problems, though, and this is the best way to get around on the island. You could also walk, but there is quite a distance between the harbour and Anholt town, so it will be quite a hike.
If you can, bring a mountainbike, as only the main roads are asphalted.
See
[edit]
- 1 Ørkenen på Anholt (desert of Anholt). The eastern part of the island is called Ørkenen (The Desert); a dry sandy desert-like heathland. It is quite beautiful and unique with a sparse vegetation of lichen heath, and stunted juniper trees in between. The best way to experience the place is by foot, just follow the well-marked hiking trail. Be prepared, the desert is quite big. It takes about 4 hours to reach the lighthouse by foot, and then you have to backtrack the same distance! Do not get stuck out there without water or at night.
