    Bad Kohlgrub is a small skiing resort and spa between Murnau and Oberammergau on the Ammergau railway in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district of Upper Bavaria. The community has the highest mud bath in Germany.

    • 1 Bad Kohlgrub train station (Bahnhof Bad Kohlgrub) (about 500 m west of the town centre). It is a station on the Ammergaubahn , also known as the Ammertalbahn.     By car

    From the north east and Munich area: via the Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen motorway to Sindelsdorf, then on the state road via Murnau to Kohlgrub, or alternatively Murnau.

    From the west: on the Landsberg and on the B17 to Schongau and then continue on the B23 to Saulgrub and turn off to Bad Kohlgrub.

    From the south: via Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the B2 federal road to Oberau, then on the B2 federal road via Oberammergau to Saulgrub and then turn off to Bad Kohlgrub.

    • Take the chairlift to the Hörnlehütte, +49 8845 592 (valley station). Late December to early March: daily 09:00-16:00 (last ascent). The Hörnlebahn cable car takes you up to the Hörnle, the local mountain above Bad Kohlgrub in the Ammergau Alps. The mountain is a popular hiking area in summer and a small but fine ski area in winter. There is also a 4.5-km-long toboggan run with toboggans for hire at the valley station. Open: November to mid-December. Adult 16 and €18.50, child 6-15 €11.00.
