    Bageshwar is a city in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

    Bageshwar is situated on the confluence of the Sarju and Gomati rivers. The city is surronded by the mountain peaks of Bhileshwar and Nileshwar to its east and west and by the Suraj Kund in the north and Agni Kund in the south. Bageshwar was historically a major trade mart between Tibet and Kumaun.

    The city is of great religious, historic and political significance. Bageshwar finds mention in various puranas, where it has been associated with Lord Shiva. The Uttrayani fair held annually in Bageshwar is the largest fair of Kumaon.

    There are two routes to reach Bageshwar from Almora. The first route is on the NH 309A via Takula. The other circuitous route reaches Bageshwar via Someshwar, Kausani, Garur and Baijnath.

    By train

    The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, 150 km away. From Kathgodam, one can either take a taxi or buses to reach Bageshwar.

    By road

    • There is a daily bus service from Delhi. The bus leaves ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi around 5-6 pm and is run by Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. Apart from this, the buses bound for Munsiari, Dharamghar and Sani-Udiyar also pass through Bageshwar. These buses depart from Anand Vihar around 3 pm to 8 pm.
    • Hourly bus services are available from Haldwani. These buses are run by K.M.O.U, and take about 6-7 hours to reach Bageshwar from Haldwani.
    • Share taxis are also available from Haldwani, Kathgodam, Almora and Berinag.

    By plane

    The nearest airport is the Pantnagar Airport (PGH IATA), located about 180 km away near Nainital. It is one of the least busy airports in the country, handling only 6 scheduled flights a week.
