    • 1 Alcácer do Sal — a very old town on top of a hill, by the Sado River. The municipality includes the seaside village of Comporta.
    • 2 Alvito — town with castle and palace
    • 3 Beja — sits on a high hill overlooking beautiful and fertile valleys that produce cereals, olive oil, and wine
    • 4 Grândola — a town known for singer Zeca Afonso as "Vila Morena" (tawny town), with a mountain of the same name
    • 5 Odemira — the largest municipality in Portugal by area. It includes the seaside village of Zambujeira do Mar with fine sandy beaches and traditional architecture; it is part of the Nature Park of the Southwest Alentejo
    • 6 Sines — port and castle city where Vasco da Gama was born
    • 7 Santiago do Cacém — it has Roman ruins, a Moorish castle, and a 13th-century church
