[edit]Islands
[edit]There are two islands on the Hooghly River near Balagarh, both of which are popular ecotourism sites and picnic spots for people in Kolkata and surroundings, providing an escape from city hustle.
- 1 Mangaldeep (মঙ্গলদ্বীপ Maṅgaldbīp). Literally the "Auspicious Island".
- 2 Sabujdweep (সবুজদ্বীপ Sabujdbīp) (there's a ferry service between Somra Bazar and Sabujdweep that takes 15 minutes). Literally the "Green Island", it consists of a group of four cottages that belong to the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDCL). The four cottages are Beas, Koel, Meghna and Palpala, all named after birds.
Temples
[edit]- 3 Anandabhairavi Temple, Sukharia. A famous Kali temple, surrounded by some smaller temples, with a lake in front of the complex. Built in 1813 by Bireshwar Mustafi, the three-storey temple consists of 25 pinnacles. The temple architecture utilised is extremely rare in West Bengal.
