Understand
[edit]Balaguer, located in the comarca of La Noguera , is a historic city with a rich cultural heritage. Divided by the Segre River, it features landmarks like the Gothic church of Santa Maria, the Sanctuary of Sant Crist, and remnants of medieval walls. Balaguer originated as Madina Balaghí under Andalusian rule, becoming a melting pot for Muslims, Christians, and Jews. The Pla d'Almatà archaeological site reflects this era. Later, the Counts of Urgell shaped its medieval identity. Today, Balaguer offers visitors a blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty.
