Barysaŭ (Belarusian: Барысаў; also commonly known as Borisov - a transliteration of the Russian Борисов) is a city in Minsk voblasć, Belarus.

[edit]The Battle of Berezina took place near Barysaŭ in November 1812 during the Napoleon's march on Russia. Nowadays, the most probable reason for visiting the town is football: the local club BATE is the most successful Belarusian football team and the local football arena hosts international tournaments' matches.

By bus/marshrutka
[edit]From the Uručča metro station you can take the 3500ск marshrutka (one-way ticket is 8 rubles). The 500э and 615 buses also go to Barysaŭ.

[edit]- 1 Ivan Kolodeev’s Manor House (Дом-усадьба И. Х. Колодеева), ☏ +375 29 174 67 74. Tu-Sa 10:00-16:00. If coming in winter, you might have to call and make a reservation in advance.
- 2 Barysaŭ United Museum (Борисовский объединённый музей). Tu-Su 9:30-17:00. The first two rooms are dedicated to the ancient history of the city and the 1812 French-Russian war, the other three are dedicated to WW2. 3 rubles (+1 ruble for taking pictures).
- 3 Church of the Resurrection. A 19th-century Orthodox church.
Do
[edit]- Watch football at 1 FC BATE Borisov, Borisov Arena (3 km south of centre along Gagarin Road). BATE stands for "Borisov Automobile and Tractor Electronics" and they play soccer in the Premier League, the top tier in Belarus. They often do well and qualify for European competitions, and the stadium (capacity 13,000) is also used for internationals. The playing season is March-Nov.
