Bidart is a town in Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
Understand
[edit]Located between Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz, Bidart is a lovely place of the Basque coast, quiet and close to the big cities. The name Bidart comes from "Bide Artean" which means "at the crossroads". Indeed, various roads from Biarritz, Bayonne and many other cities end in Bidart.
Get in
[edit]You can arrive at the Biarritz airport or Biarritz station and then take a taxi or hire a car. There are also many bus lines from Biarritz to Bidart.
Get around
[edit]In Bidart, you can get around by bus or by car. There are many bike lanes, so riding a bike is convenient. Of course you can just walk to visit the village.
See
[edit]In Bidart, there is the "Chapelle Sainte Madeleine", at a viewing point. From this point , you can even go down to a beach by a small path. There is also the village square, with the huge Basque pelota wall!
Do
[edit]In this village, you can practice a huge number of activities, from traditional Basque pelota to trekking along the coastal path. Or else, obviously, just relax on one of the six beaches. You can also take surfing or horse riding lessons. There is a water park with a lot of attraction called "Bid'a Parc".
Buy
[edit]If you go to the Basque country, you have to taste at least once the traditional Basque cake, with cream or black cherry, depending on what you prefer. You can also bring back a beach towel, or any other object with a red Basque cross.
Eat
[edit]You can go to the old Bassilour mill, in which handmade Basque cakes are sold. In front of this mill, there is the "Restaurant du Moulin" with an amazing terrace surrounded by trees. It's a great atmosphere and prices are affordable. If you prefer the beach, you can go to the "Bela Gorri". This restaurant is divided into two parts : The restaurant, at the seaside, very cosy, decorated in red tones with a dim light. It has a direct access to the beach, and it's very convenient for children. And before going to eat a good meal, you can have an aperitif and relax at the terrace bar that completes the restaurant. Comfortably sat on large coloured cushions to admire the sunset. Sometimes, there are small concerts !

[edit]In Bidart, there are many campsites and hotels. For example, the "Hotel Elissada", on the village's central area, so it's very convenient. There is also the "Domaine de Bassilour" for a romantic setting, away from the center. It's a calm and quiet place, perfect for relaxing with a very warm atmosphere. One night costs 124 €. Or you can go to "Hotel Gochoki", if you want a cheaper hotel (86 €/ per night). This hotel has a beautiful park in which you can take your breakfast, with local and organic products. It also has a heated pool and it is close to the center.
