How did Cando get its name? In 1884, J.W. Connelly is said to have objected to creating a new town to be the seat of Towner County. County Commissioner Capt. Prosper Parker is quoted as responding, "Gentlemen, we have been appointed to this committee to decide this location, and in virtue of our authority, we select this location and name the town 'Cando' to show you that we Can-Do it."
