Carberry is a small town of around 1,700 people (2016) in the Prairie Mountain region of Manitoba. The close proximity of Carberry to Spruce Woods Provincial Park and the many unique recreational activities in the area make Carberry a popular tourist destination.

[edit]Carberry and the surrounding rural area are known as "King Spud Country", a nickname which pays homage to the high quality potatoes grown in the area due to ideal soil conditions for the crop. Many businesses in Carberry offer services and supplies to support the robust agriculture industry. Food processing makes use of locally produced crops and is a major employer in the community. A local factory owned by McCain Foods makes various potato products, and is a major supplier for McDonald's Restaurants in Canada and the United States. It also producing potato products that are found in other well known restaurants, grocery stores and other varied world markets. Along with potatoes, the local agriculture industry is very diverse and includes other vegetable, grain, pulse, industrial hemp crops, dairy, poultry and livestock, among other mixed farming.
Many businesses and services cater to tourists both on a seasonal and year-round basis.

[edit]Carberry is 3 km (1.9 mi) south of Provincial Trunk Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) on Provincial Trunk Highway 5, 50 km (31 mi) east of Brandon, and 150 km (93 mi) west of Winnipeg.

[edit]- 1 Camp Hughes (Camp Hughes National Historic Site), PR 351 (16 km (9.9 mi) W of Carberry on PR 351). Camp Hughes was a Canadian military training camp located west of Carberry. It was actively used for Army training from 1909 to 1934 and as a communications station from the early 1960s until 1991. Camp Hughes was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 2011. It features an intact World War I battlefield terrain, which was created for training purposes by the Canadian Department of Militia between 1915 and 1916. It is now one of the only World War I-era trench systems remaining in the world.

- Downtown Carberry (Main Street). Designated as Manitoba's first Provincial Heritage District. Two blocks of the street are completely made up of historic buildings with architecture dating back well over a century.

The Seton Centre is a small museum, art gallery and gift shop dedicated to the life and works of Ernest Thompson Seton, a world-renowned artist and naturalist who spent much of his time between 1882-1892 in the Carberry area. He often referred to his time in the area as the "Golden Years" of his life and it inspired many of his later works.
