Cookham is a small village in the county of Berkshire in the South East of England.

[edit]Cookham is situated on the River Thames between towns of Maidenhead and Marlow. The village is famous for being the home of the artist Stanley Spencer.

[edit]Cookham station is at the a branch line that runs to Marlow from Maidenhead which is at a junction with the main London Paddington — Reading line.
- 1 Cookham Railway Station, Cookham Rise. Trains link Cookham with Maidenhead every hour.

[edit]- 1 Stanley Spencer Gallery, The Kings Hall, High Street (at the W corner of High Street), ☏ +44 1628 471885, [email protected]. Nov-Mar Th-Su 11:00am-4:30pm; Apr-Oct 10:30am-5:30pm. A small gallery devoted to Stanley Spencer, a distinguished English painter. Albeit it's small, it's still known as the largest collection of his works on display at any one time. Adults £5 Concessions (Seniors, Students) £4.
- 2 Holy Trinity Church. A parish church mostly built in the 12th century. In the Churchyard besides it there is a memorial stone to the Sir Stanley Spencer.
- 3 Cookham Bridge. This iron bridge was opened in 1867. It was depicted in Stanley Spencer's Swan Upping at Cookham painting.
Do
[edit]Have a walk along the shores and islands of the River Thames:
- 1 Cookham Lock. One of the routes starts from Odney Lane near the gallery, then goes via bridge to Formosa Island, then to Cookham Lock Island and finishes at the lock.
- 2 Cookham Reach Sailing Club (C.R.S.C.). Another route is to W of the bridge towards a sailing club.

[edit]- 1 The Ferry, Sutton Road. 11am-11pm. A nice pub and a restaurant overlooking the Cookham Bridge and the river moorings.
- 2 The Bel and Dragon, High Street. Yet another cosy pub and a restaurant close to the gallery.
- 3 Spice Merchant Cookham (Cookham Tandoori), High Street. Reportedly a good Indian restaurant.
