The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is an adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas, published in the 1840s.

The story has been adapted to dozens of motion pictures since the silent film era, most of them abridging and simplifying the story, or adding details absent from the novel.
