Damphu is a pleasant and quaint little town (by Bhutanese modern town standards) in Central Bhutan.
Understand
[edit]Damphu is the administrative capital of Tsirang District. It has an abundance of restaurants and shops and a large free parking area. Most of the windowsills and ledges of the town's buildings are decorated with plants, while public spaces are filled with shrubs, which creates an attractive environment to spend time. At around 1,800 metres, the town is warm in the winter, but not overly hot in the summer.
Get in
[edit]Damphu is on the north–south highway running from Wangdue Phodrang to Sarpang and Gelephu on the border with India.
The Thimphu to Gelephu buses pass through the town.
Get around
[edit]The town is small enough to cover on foot.
See
[edit]Tsirang Dzong - inaugurated in 2008, the building is a fine example of modern dzong architecture.
