Understand

[edit]

Dimitsana is a historic mountain village in Arcadia, in the central Peloponnese of Greece. Perched dramatically above the Lousios Gorge on the slopes of Mount Mainalo, it is one of the most atmospheric and historically significant villages in the region. Dimitsana flourished during Ottoman times and played a key role in the Greek War of Independence, supplying gunpowder from its local mills. Several prominent figures of the revolution were born here. With its stone-built mansions, narrow lanes, and sweeping valley views, Dimitsana combines natural beauty with a strong cultural heritage.
