[edit]Douglas, named after the popular sovereignty advocate (as in, states had the right to choose in matters such as slavery) and senator Stephen A. Douglas, who went up against Lincoln for the presidency in 1860 but ultimately lost. Tobacco is a major commodity in the Douglas area.
