Parroquia Santa Rita de Casia

Esquina is a town in Corrientes. The town is a magnet for fishermen and also attracts birdwatchers and naturalists interested in local wildlife.

From Buenos Aires, go to the Terminal Omnibus Retiro and take a Flecha bus to Corrientes (11 hours, 945 km) and then take a bus from Corrientes to Esquina (4 hours).

  • 1 Parroquia Santa Rita de Casia, Av 25 de Mayo 334. The church, established in 1809, is an attractive colonial style church built of brick with twin bell towers and several stained glass windows. The interior is relatively plain with white plaster walls and ceilings and a number of sculptures and paintings.   • 2 Museo Historico Municipal (Esquina History Museum), Av. 25 de Mayo. Small but interesting and well organized museum in the renovated Casa Gallardo. The museum tells the story of the town's past. Exhibits include old maps, coins, furniture from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Information is in Spanish only, so brush up on your language skills.   • Fishing is particularly popular in Esquina, where the Paraná and Corrientes rivers converge. Golden Dorado (known as the river tiger) is the prize fish, though local species include Surubí, Pacú, and Bogs. The best fishing months are September through May. Fishing guides can be hired locally. A fishing license is required.

  • In January and February many tourists visit Esquina to celebrate Carnival.
  • In March the town hosts the Fiesta Nacional del Pacú, a fishing competition which attracts around 25,000 visitors. The fiesta features music, dance, and local cuisine.
  • In December, the town hosts an annual Watermelon Festival.
