    Understand

    [edit]

The department is a largely wooded plateau intersected by the valleys of the river Seine and its tributaries.

The Eure does not have a coastline, and only a few places have a "spectacular" character, such as the site of Château-Gaillard near Les Andelys or the Pointe de la Roque which dominates the Seine estuary downstream from the Tancarville bridge. The Eure benefits from landscapes that are fairly preserved from industrialization and urbanization, large forests, typical countryside with cool valleys and medium-sized or small towns that have managed to preserve their charm and character. The tourism that takes place there is mainly weekend tourism because this department is favored by its proximity to Paris and its location on the road to the Calvados beaches. Many of its inhabitants go to work in the Paris region or in the Rouen metropolitan area.

    Do

    [edit]

Part of the Eure department is included in the Boucles de la Seine Normande regional natural park. The park is rich in exceptional natural and cultural heritage. Many of the park's riches, whether historical, architectural or natural, are located on the Eure side.

    Eat

    [edit]

As a Norman department, Eure offers a gastronomy based on the classic specialties of this region: apples, milk and meat as well as alcohols such as cider, calvados and pommeau. Eure has many famous markets, some of which are specialized: the apple market of Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare, the foie gras market of Neubourg, the herring fair of Lieurey, etc.

    Drink

    [edit]

In Eure, some typical Normandy alcohols are produced: cider, calvados, calvados Pays d'Auge, AOC and pommeau de Normandie, AOC. The largest calvados and pommeau distillery in Normandy has been located in Eure, in Cormeilles, since 1910.

Other products originate from Eure or are produced on its territory:

    • Noyau de Vernon is an infusion of cherry pits and almonds mixed with kirsch brandy.
    • Richard Cœur de Lion beer, produced in Tosny near Les Andelys.
    • Pierval (spring water). The Pierval spring flows under the century-old oaks in the park of the Pont-Saint-Pierre castle, in the Norman Vexin.
