Flachau is a village in Salzburg, Austria in the Pongau district, more precisely the Ennspongau, named after the river Enns, whose source is here.
Understand
[edit]Flachau is a rural village with only around 3,000 inhabitants. However, with over 10,000 guest beds, tourism is by far the most important industry. The town is focused on this purpose, and a popular spot, especially among German tourists.

[edit]The closest airport is Salzburg Airport (SZG IATA), which is served by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Ryanair, as well as other major carriers during holiday time.
The next larger airport is Munich Airport (MUC IATA) around 250 km away. The Vienna International Airport is approximately 300 km (190 mi) away.
By train
[edit]Flachau is not directly linked to the railway but neighboring towns of Altenmarkt and Radstadt have stops on the "Ennsatalbahn" railway line, connecting Bischofshofen and Selzthal, and are served by regional trains (Line S9). Radstadt is also called by intercity trains on the Salzburg - Graz line and Graz - Innsbruck lines.
By car
[edit]Flachau is directly on the A10 Tauernautobahn motorway and has two exits. Flachau, which takes you directly to the town, and Flachauwinkl which serves mainly as access to the Zauchensee and Kleinarl ski resorts. Flachau can be reached by car within an hour from Salzburg Airport, 2 hours from Munich, Ljubljana and from the Italian border, 3 hours from Switzerland, 12 hours from Denmark. Beware of possible wintery road conditions when planning the road trip. Furthermore to A10 motorway is prone to congestion during holiday season. Especcially the tunnels between Gollig and Bischofshofen regularly cause delays.
By ski
[edit]Being part of the Snow Space Salzburg ski resort, it is also possible to get to Flachau by ski, starting on any other village of the resort. Access by ski can be faster that by other modes of transport, as those follow the valleys and ski connections are quick and direct. Especcially during weekends and bed weather, the roads may be congested or closed due to avalanche danger.
Get around
[edit]Flachau is small and not very dense, so it is easily traversed by foot. During winter, buses (Skibus) serve all areas of Flachau and connect the ski resort with the residential areas.

Skiing
[edit]Flachau is famous for its ski mountains. The ski resort Snow Space Salzburg surrounds the village, with multiple access points. Due to the good raod access, Flachau is also the main entry point for day guests, with large parking areas.
Inside the core of Flachau, 3 axises transport skiers into the resort.

- 3 Space Jet - six seater chair lift; starts from the B163 Wagrainer Straße, that connects Flachau with Wagrain and St.Johann
About 5 km south of Flachau, lies the agglomertion of Flachauwinkl, with access to the skiresorts of Zauchensee and Kleinarl.
