Flying to South America Voyage Tips and guide

You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

Santiago Airport is one of the major points of entry to South America.

The main air hubs of South America are Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Santiago, and Lima, so many flights to other parts of South America will connect in one of these hubs.

Airfares can be cheaper when booked from the European capital that has a strong colonial link to your destination, which typically means Madrid or Lisbon, but would be London for Guyana, Amsterdam for Suriname, and Paris for French Guyana. Miami is a popular travel hub from the United States to Latin America because of its location and large Latino population. Many flights connect in Panama City as well because of its convenient location. See your destination's article for more specific information on flights.

    From Europe

    [edit]

Avianca and LATAM have a good selection of European departure points and serve at least a couple of major cities like Lisbon or Madrid. The cheapest flights to South American cities from Europe are often through the country's former colonial power. There are quite a few connections between Spain and Bogota, Buenos Aires, Lima and Santiago. Cities with large immigrant populations such as Madrid, London, Lisbon, and Paris have a rather large number of flights to South America - especially to their (former) colonies.
