Güstrow is a town of 29,000 people (2020) that is a former royal residence in Mecklenburg, Germany. Its renaissance palace and well-kept old town are known beyond Northern Europe.

- 1 Güstrow Palace (Schloss Güstrow). It was built in 1589 in Renaissance style, as a residence for the dukes of Mecklenburg.It is one of the most important works of this era in the Baltic Sea region. Its Renaissance garden was modelled after descriptions appearing in old engravings.
- 2 Güstrow Cathedral. A brick Gothic cathedral built between 1226 and 1335. Noteworthy are a late Gothic high altar (c. 1500), the tombs of Duke Ulrich III and his two wives (16th century), and the celebrated Schwebende Engel ("Hovering Angel"), the most famous work of the expressionist sculptor Ernst Barlach, created in 1926 as a tribute to the victims of World War I.
- 3 St. Mary's church (Pfarrkirche St. Marien). A Brick Gothic parish church, partly remodelled in the 19th-century Ernst Barlach's Atelierhaus (studio), that exhibits a large collection of his works.
- 4 The Townhall (Rathaus). It was built in the 13th century and rebuilt c. 1800 at the central market square.
- 5 Dobbertin Abbey, Am Kloster, Dobbertin, Landstraße Nr. 192 (25 km south of Güstrow, in Ludwigslust-Parchim between Sternberg and Goldberg), ☏ +49 38736 86121, [email protected]. Guided tours May-Sep: W Su at 15:00; except for the Brauhaus most of the abbey is only open in the summer. The abbey was founded in 1220. It now houses workshops for handicapped. There is a good cafe (Brauhaus) and a giftshop selling products from the workshops. €3 for the tours.
