Ganzhou (赣州 Gànzhōu) is a city in Jiangxi Province. It is a significant destination for both tourism and business travel.

Ganzhou is in the southern part of Jiangxi Province, adjacent to Fujian, Guangdong, and Hunan provinces. It is an important transportation hub and commercial center.

Ganzhou boasts a rich history and is considered an important cultural heritage site. The city is home to numerous historical landmarks such as the ancient city wall, City God Temple (赣州城隍庙), and Longyuan Academy (龙源书院). The Ganzhou region also features stunning natural landscapes, including Chongyi Grand Canyon (崇义大峡谷), Longhu Mountain (龙虎山), and Shaoshan Mountain.

Ganzhou has preserved a rich traditional culture, with a focus on Hakka culture (客家文化), including Jiangxi opera, folk arts, and Hakka cuisine (客家美食).

The dialects in the Ganzhou region mainly consist of Gan dialects, which are further divided into several dialect branches, including:

• Gan Southern Dialect (赣南方言): Gan Southern Dialect is the primary dialect in the Ganzhou region and is one of the most widely spoken dialects within Jiangxi Province. There are various local variants of Gan Southern Dialect, as the Ganzhou region covers a large geographical area, resulting in slight dialectal differences.
• Hakka Dialect (客家方言): A portion of the population in the Ganzhou region uses Hakka dialect, especially in areas where Hakka communities reside. Hakka dialect is a branch of Chinese and has some differences from Gan Southern Dialect.
• Standard Mandarin (标准普通话): Standard Mandarin is also widely used in Ganzhou city and some urban areas, particularly in business and official contexts.

While Gan Southern Dialect is the predominant dialect in the Ganzhou region, the dialects and language culture in the area are relatively complex due to geographical, historical, and demographic diversity, incorporating influences from various Chinese dialects. Different regions and communities may use different dialects or variants.

Taxi is the easiest, fastest way. The city also has buses and is very easy to walk.

A beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush greenery, Shenshui Waterfall is a peaceful retreat, perfect for photography and enjoying nature. The waterfall is a key highlight of the scenic area. The Ganzhou Buddhist Pagoda, built during the Tang Dynasty, is a prominent historical site known for its ancient architecture and serene environment. Open 24 hours. The Floating Bridge spans the Gan River and is famous for its unique design and picturesque views. • Fushougou Museum (Fushou Ditch Museum), 22 Houde Rd, Zhanggong District. The Fushou Ditch Museum is a unique museum centered on showcasing the Fushou Ditch, a 900+ year old underground drainage system with open ditches, culverts and ponds of the ancient city. It is the only museum dedicated to underground drainage systems in China. (updated Jan 2026)

• Ganzhou boasts beautiful natural landscapes, including Sanbai Mountain (三百山), Wudang Mountain (南武当山) and Yangming Lake (阳明湖). You can go hiking, mountain climbing, admire the magnificent scenery, or simply enjoy the tranquility of nature.
• The Ganzhou region has a rich tradition of folk culture. You can watch local traditional performances, learn crafts and arts, and participate in folk activities. Ganzhou also has some Hakka culture (客家文化欣赏) influence, and you can learn about Hakka folk songs (客家民歌) and Hakka architecture (客家建筑).
