Gerenzano is a town in the Lombard province of Varese. It's not on the main tourist map and there are no real attractions in town, but there's a hotel and it can serve as a base just outside chaotic Milan. It might also be convenient as a first night stop when arriving at Malpensa and Linate airports, which are only a 20 and 35 minutes drive, respectively.

This is the hotel in town, and while it's a bit run down and mostly aims at business travelers, breakfast until noon and checkout until 1pm make for lazy mornings. There's room service at all hours. Milan is the obvious next stop.
