Gironde is a department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwest France. It is known for its excellent wines (especially in the Bordeaux wine region) and rich heritage. Gironde is well known for the Côte d'Argent beach which is Europe's longest, attracting many surfers to Lacanau each year. The Great Dune of Pyla in Arcachon Bay near Bordeaux is the tallest sand dune in Europe.

[edit]- Château de Roquetaillade. This natural defensive site has always been inhabited by humans since the stone age. Today you will find two castles inside a protective wall. The first castle dating from the 11th century has lots many of its original fortifications. The second castle was built in 1306 with the permission of King Edward the 1st, and is still lived in by the same family since.
