Hemis National Park is a national park in Ladakh and a haven for snow leopards and the numerous other rare and endangered species that live in the area. With an area of over 4,000 km2 (1,500 sq mi), it is by far India's largest national park. It is a high-elevation park with the elevation ranging between 3,000 and 6,000 metres.

[edit]Though not very far in distance from the nearest settlement of Leh, it can take well over an hour by car at the very minimum, whichever way you choose to enter.

[edit]- 1 Hemis Monastery. A Himalayan Buddhist monastery that's been known to exist before the 11th century. It hosts the Hemis Festival, held every June.
