    Understand

    [edit]

Heraclea Minoa was an ancient Greek city founded in the 6th century BCE. It later became a Roman settlement before being abandoned in late antiquity. Today, the archaeological remains — especially the semicircular theatre and traces of the city wall — overlook the Mediterranean coast in a striking natural setting.

A small modern seaside locality nearby shares the same name and offers limited accommodation and beach access. The combination of historical ruins and scenic coastline makes Heraclea Minoa a peaceful stop between Sciacca and Agrigento.

    Get in

    [edit]

    By bus

    [edit]

Buses do not go directly into Heraclea Minoa, but they stop at the junction on the SS115 highway about 4 km inland. From there, it’s a walk (or possibly a hitchhike) down to the site and beach. In summer, this walk can be very hot, so bring water and sun protection.

From the SS115 junction, there are regular buses running between Agrigento and Sciacca operated by Autolinee Lumia or others. Be sure to ask the driver to let you off at “bivio Eraclea Minoa.”
