Huangmei (黄梅 Huángméi) is a town and county in the east of Hubei Province, bordering Anhui and Jiangxi along the Yangtze River.

[edit]Huangmei is known to Chinese people for Ohe tone (哦呵腔), a form of traditional Chinese opera also called the "picking tea song" and is popular in Hubei province.
Get in

[edit]Long-distance buses are the cheapest and most common way to travel to Huangmei. There are many buses from Wuhan, JiuJiang and Huanggang.
Get around
[edit]Taxis are cheap but not very common, as locals usually take one of the cheaper motor pedicabs to get around.
See
[edit]- Wuzu Temple (五祖寺), the monastery of the fifth Patriarch of Chan (Zen), at East Mountain (TungShan). In 2019, there is a new tourist center next to WuZuZhen Village, and the road to the temple is closed for cars. The bus from the tourist center to the temple (15 minutes) leaves each half hour and costs ¥15.
- Sizu Temple, monastery of the fourth Patriarch of Chan, at Double Peak Mountain (ShuangFengShan).
- Laozu Temple, in the mountain tea-growing area along a small lake.
All three temples are in the mountains north of Huangmei, and can be reached by car or taxi.
- GuTa, a historic Buddhist tower in the center of the city.
