Jecheon (제천, 堤川市) is a district in North Chungcheong in South Korea. Jecheon is a city where beautiful nature is in harmony and historic temples are located. It is also an area where you can find peace outside of your daily life, enjoying temples and natural scenery located in calm mountains.
It is also called the center of transportation and logistics because it is located in the center of the inland of the central part of the Korean Peninsula. It is the area where Cheongpungho Lake, an inland sea with beautiful mountains and scenery in the direct sunlight from the mountain range, is located.

[edit]It has the third largest population in North Chungcheong Province. It is the northernmost city in the province.
Along with the neighboring regions Danyang-gun and Yeongwol-gun, it has grown into a cement industrial city, and provides exceeds half of the nation's cement production. It also serves as a hub for the mining industry. As the mining industry declines, the industrial structure is being reorganized mainly in the service and tourism industries, and it is being promoted as a "natural healing city" and a "Korean medicine city" based on the three major cities of Yakryeong-si and Hwanggi production base nationwide.
History
[edit]During the Joseon Dynasty, Cheongpung-myeon was famous. Cheongpung-myeon was known for not much in fact, but for the fact that a single person was born. As a result, there are few historical sites. If so, there are Uirimji, cultural assets in Cheongpung-myeon, cultural assets related to righteous army at the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Baeronseongji, the site of Korea's first Catholic seminary and the stronghold of Catholicism such as Father Choi Yang-up's missionary work, and Buddhist art majors are known for their works including Jeongbangsa Temple, which was built during the Unified Silla Dynasty in Kumsusan Mountain, Lee Hyeongseok Pagoda such as the Nine-story Stone Pagoda of Sasa Temple at the Bin Shrine site of Mt. Wolak, which was designated as a treasure, Maae Seokbul at Deokjusa Temple in Wolaksan Mountain, and Mojeon Stone Pagoda, which was built during the Shilla Dynasty, which is located in front of Jangraksa Temple.
At first, the name Naeje-gun was used. The name Jecheon means the inner part of the bank, and in the Goryeo Dynasty, it was called Jeju because it was called the village of the bank, but in the Joseon Dynasty, the name was changed from Jeju to Jecheon as Taejong, the third king, gave the order to change it to Cheon or Mountain, respectively, for some villages built as the main state. The name Jecheon was called at this time, and this continued during the Korean Empire, and in 1980, when Jecheon-eup was separated into Jecheon-si, the remaining area was changed to 堤, and in 1991, it was returned to Jecheon-gun again, and in 1995, Jecheon-gun was integrated and the city and county of Jecheon have been integrated.

Climate
[edit]Jecheon City is located at a high altitude above sea level in the inland and has a continental climate with a large intersection with a basin surrounded by mountains. The Taebaek Mountains are surrounded by the Charyeong Mountains in the northwest and the Sobaeksan Mountains in the southeast, and the north and south are relatively higher than the east and west.

[edit]Other than their own cars, the fastest way to reach Jecheon is by train rather than bus. KTX-Ieum and Mugunghwa trains, ITX-Saemaul, and ITX-Mind trains are essential to stops to Jecheon. The fastest way to arrive is by KTX, and Mugunghwa trains are available at the cheapest price.

[edit]After the train, the easiest way to get there is by bus. There are three major bus stops heading to Jecheon: Jecheon Bus Terminal, Jecheon Express Bus Terminal, and Jecheon Subway stops, and the price is estimated to be around 12,000 to 20,000 won depending on the distance. It is a cheaper mode of transportation than trains, and there are many stops, so it is useful for visiting.

The glass observatory installed above Yongchu Falls is a mixture of transparent and opaque glass at the bottom of the footbridge, and after passing through a sensor installed on an iron pillar, the opaque glass turns into transparent glass and overlooks the waterfall. - 9 Bibongsan Mountain (비봉산), Mountain 7-4 in Gwangwang-ri, Cheongpung-myeon. It is a mountain in Yeongok-ri, Cheongpung-myeon. It is 531 meters high. It is sometimes called Maebong Peak because it looks like a hawk is flying no matter where you look at the mountain. Surrounded by Cheongpungho Lake, the view from the mountain is cool and beautiful.

- 13 Cave Site in Jecheon Jeommal (제천점말동굴유적), Pojeon-ri, Songhak-myeon. The Jeommal Cave in Jecheon is a cave site from the Paleolithic Era. It is also a cave that allowed people to know the age of relics from the Paleolithic Age in Korea with animal fossils such as bears and short-tailed monkeys excavated here.

The total circumference of the wall along the mountain stream is more than 15 km, and several layers of wall are built in Deokjugol, the deepest valley at the southern foot of Wolaksan Mountain.
- 15 Oriental Ecological Forest Park (한방생태숲공원), Mt. 2-1 Dohwa-ri, Songhak-myeon. It is a forest park with a well-managed lawn around the hackberry tree, and it is good to take a walk when autumn leaves come out. Also, Biryongdam Reservoir is nearby, so it is good to visit.
- 16 Taksajeong Pavillion (탁사정), Guhak-ri, Bongyang-eup. It is a Jecheon pavilion during the Japanese colonial period in Guhak-ri, Bongyang-eup.
- 17 Jakseongsan Mountain (작성산), Seongnae-ri, Geumseong-myeon. It is a mountain that spans Jeokseong-myeon of Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do and Geumseong-myeon, Jecheon-si. Located at the northern end of Kumsusan Mountain, it is famous for its summer mountains along with the Dongsan Mountain next door.

- 19 The Buddha of Deokjusa Temple (덕주사마애불), Mt. 1-1 Songgye-ri, Hansu-myeon. It is located under the 1.6-km mountain of Jeongsan Mountain along the hiking trail next to Deokjusa Temple, and there is a Buddha statue engraved on a large rock. If you visit in autumn, you can feel the nature more as there are maple trees everywhere in the middle of climbing.
