Kannauj (कन्नौज Kannauj) is a town on the Ganges in western Uttar Pradesh, in a culturally transient zone between the Braj and Awadh regions.

Once known as Kanyakubja (Sanskrit: कान्यकुब्ज Kānyakubja), Kannauj was a historically important city in the early Middle Ages, being the capital of the Gurjar-Pratihar Empire during the 9th and 10th centuries.
