Understand

[edit]

Mostly fertile plateaus for agriculture & ranching and home to much of the country's recoverable minerals. De facto independent from 1960-1966 during the "Katanga Crisis".

Get in

[edit]

The region's gateway is Lubumbashi International Airport (FBM IATA) which sees flight from Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Johannesburg as well as all major Congolese cities.

Get around

[edit]

Road condition ranges from bad to non-existent, depending on the season. There is a railway linking Lubumbashi with Likasi but trains are limited to once or twice per months and schedules are not fixed. Simply put, travelling by other means then flying is a proper challenge.

See

[edit]
  • National Museum of Lubumbashi (Musée national de Lubumbashi), 750 Avenue du Musée.
  • Cathedral of Saint Pierre and Paul (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre et Paul). Built in 1910. Lubumbashi.

This region travel guide to Katanga is an outline and may need more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. If there are Cities and Other destinations listed, they may not all be at usable status or there may not be a valid regional structure and a "Get in" section describing all of the typical ways to get here. Please plunge forward and help it grow!
