Khaybar is an oasis town situated some 153 kilometres (95 mi) north of the city of Medina. Prior to the arrival of Islam in the 7th century, the area had been inhabited by Arabian Jewish tribes until it fell to Muslim invaders under Muhammad during the Battle of Khaybar in 628 CE.

As of early 2025, most sights in Khaybar are closed for renovation.

    • 1 Khaybar Historical City (خيبر مدينة القديمة). The mud brick ruins of the old town of Khaybar, perched photogenically on a hilltop. Access is limited to guests of tours operated by Experience AlUla, who also have the monopoly on tours to Hegra.
    • 2 Ain al-Jammah. The desert oasis that sustained life in this harsh environment, now a landscaped pool surrounded by palm trees.
    • 3 Harrat Khaybar (حرة خيبر). An enormous lava field spanning 12,000 km2. The highlights are the "White Mountains" of Jabal Abyad (2,093m) and Jabal Bayda, both comendite (white) volcanoes that have a dramatic contrast against the dark black lava fields. The area is best appreciated from the air, but there are hiking trails up to the edge of the volcano's crater. Harrat Khaybar (Q629667) on Wikidata Harrat Khaybar on Wikipedia
