Van Buren was the first US president born after the nation's independence and to date the only Dutch-speaking president. Visitor center open 9AM to 4:30PM on dates the mansion is open.

[edit]- Pass the Thyme Cafe, 3 Albany Ave (One door down from the central crossroads), ☏ +1 518 779-1702. M Tu Th-Su 7AM - 3PM (closed Wednesdays). Solid informal deli/cafe. Good sandwiches, soup, tea and desserts. Service is very friendly, and the place has a real small-town feel; your server will take the time to talk to you and get to know you a little, and it's not unlikely that a friend of the cafe will come in just to say hi and share the news of the day without ordering a thing. Not worth a long detour, but if you are in the area, you are likely to enjoy the experience. Expect to pay about $15 for a good-sized lunch.
