Kirundi (Ikirundi) is a sole native language that is widely spoken in the country of Burundi. Kirundi language is also spoken in some Great Lakes Countries due to the issue of refugees some of those countries include Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania. There are some neighboring countries of Burundi which has languages which are slightly seem to be like Kirundi like the Kinyarwanda language from Rwanda, and some other different languages from Uganda, and Giha language in Tanzania.
Kirundi is one of the main pillars that preserve the Burundian culture and heritage as well as history. And this is widely seen in Burundian literature which includes dances (imvyino), riddles (ibisokozo), myths (ibitekerezo), pastoral songs (amazina y'inka), hunters' song (amahigi), praising songs (ibihayagizo), Lullaby or cradle song (ibihozo), tongue twisters (inyoberabahinga), spellcasting (ibitongero), proverbs (imigani), poems (ivyivugo).
Kirundi language is one of four official languages used in Burundi, which are Kirundi, English, French and Swahili.
