Krnov is a town of about 22,000 people (2026), in the historical region of Czech Silesia in North Moravia and Silesia, on the border with Poland. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected as an urban monument zone.

[edit]Krnov lies under the the Nízký Jeseník range,. The town lies in a valley surrounded by several hills. The highest point is the Bednářský vrch hill at 588 m above sea level.

[edit]Krnov is located about 65 km northeast of Olomouc and 50 km northwest of Ostrava.
Krnov lies at the crossroads of two main roads: the the I/45 (connecting it with Olomouc District) and I/57 (leading to Opava).
Krnov is located on the railway line Ostrava–Opava-Olomouc. The trains from Opava run in 20 min to 1 hour intervals, and the town's two stations (Krnov-Cvilín and Krnov), most trains serve both.

[edit]- Krnov town hall. The town hall from 1903 is a neorenaissance building with a richly decorated 52 metres (171 ft) high tower.
- 1 Krnov synagogue. The only synagogue in the region which survived to this day in its original form. Today it serves as an exhibition and concert hall.
- Former spinning mill and warehouse. Formner factory with a sample workshop, including a set of machinery. It is a Neoclassical building from 1922, protected as a national cultural monument.
- Cvilín hill. Pilgrimage site with the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows and Stations of the Cross. The church was built in 1722–1727 and replaced the wooden chapel, which did not have enough capacity for the number of believers participating in the pilgrimage. It is one of the most important Baroque monuments in the region. Since 2018, it has been protected as a national cultural monument.
