Get in
[edit]By bus
[edit]Buses from Mataram's Mandalika terminal travel to Labuhan Lombok at 2 hr intervals. Most buses stop outside the Kayangan port (see below), but you may need to take another bemo to get to the distant terminal.
By ferry
[edit]Ferries from Poto Tano, Sumbawa (1.5 hr) dock at Labuhan Kayangan (Kayangan Port), 3 km south of town.
- Alat Strait crossings: Labuhan, Lombok - Pototano, Sumbawa with 8 ferries providing 18 crossings per day.
When arriving at Labuhan Lombok by ferry from Sumbawa passengers may find only limited services are available to connect to Praya in central Lombok, south toward Kuta, South Lombok or west toward the city of Mataram, Lembar ferry port in West Lombok and the Senggigi beach tourism precinct on the west coast.
To travel onward using public buses and bemo a traveller would need to have a good understanding both of the area and the vagaries of the interconnections and services. It would possibly be far easier and more expedient to either use a taxi, rent a car and driver or to use a book through service such as that provided by Perama tours to access other parts of Lombok.
East and Central Lombok is serviced from Labuhan Lombok for connections through to Sumbawa at Poto Tano. Labuhan has basic facilities to receive the ferries that ply the Alat Strait to Sumbawa. On the west coast Tanjung Lembar seaport provides facilities for the passenger ferries from Bali, passenger carrying ships visiting Lombok, small freighters and fishing boats.
The drive on, drive off ferries provide the principal facilities for road transport movements in and out of Lombok as well as moving passengers to and from Bali in the west and Sumbawa in the east.. The operators on these routes will occasionally suspend services due to breakdown or heavy seas.
- Please see the main Lombok article for details on air and sea connections through to Bali, Java and other destinations westward.
