Lapinjärvi (Swedish: Lappträsk) is a municipality in eastern Uusimaa.
Understand
[edit | edit source]
Lapinjärvi is a small rural municipality some 100 km north-east of Helsinki, by the shores of the lake Lapinjärvi.
The parish village is a Cultural Heritage Site of National Significance, as it is unusually well-preserved. The site includes the former highway through it, the churches, the rectories, the Brofogdas house, the elementary school, the agricultural school (now library), the Marieberg mansion, the farmhouses and the former craftsman houses.
Get in
[edit | edit source]Highway 6 leads to Lapinjärvi from Helsinki (94 km) and Kouvola (42 km). From the neighbouring town of Loviisa, the most direct route to Lapinjärvi is along Regional Road 176 (22 km).

Get around
[edit | edit source]The centre of Lapinjärvi is relatively small, so all essential services can be found just a short walk away.
The village Porlammi is some 10 km to the north-west, Harsböle some 10 km to the south and Pukaro some 7 km to the north-northeast.
See
[edit | edit source]- 1 Lapinjärvi Church (Lapinjärven kirkko), Sibbeksentie 1. The church area consists of two wooden churches: a small church dedicated to the Finnish-speaking congregation completed in 1744 and a large church dedicated to the Swedish-speaking congregation completed in 1746.
- 2 Bell museum, Meijerintie (Kimonkylä, 500 m from Highway 6, near the border to Kymenlaakso). At special occasions or by agreement. A museum of some 1,500–2,000 bells (of which some 300 church bells), maintained by a bell tower technician. Also a bell foundry, a chapel with a number of organs and a narrow-gauge railway.
- 3 Brofogdas, Lukkarinpolku 5. The 18th-century lieutenant's residence known as boställe, which is a farm owned by the crown and given to an official as a residence. Today, this oldest existing house of Lapinjärvi serves as a museum building.
- 4 Tornikallio. One of the points on the world heritage listed Struve Geodetic Arc. From the Porlammi–Myrskylä road follow the signs to the parking lot, then it's first 200 m backtracking along the road and about 400 m of hiking uphill; probably not a good idea in the winter. There are nice views over Lake Pyhäjärvi, although at the point where the UNESCO marker is, it is mostly obstructed by pines. Tornikallio is 98 m ASL.
