Lempäälä is a municipality and town of 24,000 people (2021) in Pirkanmaa.

[edit]The town is 20 km south of Tampere, and most trains and buses going to Helsinki and Turku stop there. Buses from Turku stop at Lempäälä th (Ryynikkä), most buses from Helsinki stop near Ideapark shopping center at Ideapark mt 130, some of them use highway stop Lempäälä Vaihmala liittymä 34 and some additionally stop at Lastustenkulma.
Tampere local bus network Nysse serves Lempäälä well having some services even to ruralside (lines 56, 57, 60 and 63).
The main freeway south from Tampere also passes a few kilometers east of the town and next to Ideapark. Tampere-Pirkkala airport is about 15 km north.
Via train
[edit]Lempäälä train station is located in the center of the town. It is an unmanned station accessed via an underpass. There is parking at the station, making it possible to arrive by car to lempäälä and take the train to Tampere.
There are two ways to buy a ticket between Lempäälä and Tampere.
Option 1 is to buy the ticket from the Tampere regional transport ("Nysse") application or use their bus pass. Lempäälä is part of said Nysse area, meaning that all trains which stop in Lempäälä, can be used with a Tampere public transport ticket. This is possible only between the stations in Lempäälä, Tampere, Tesoma, Nokia, and Orivesi. This makes it simple and cost-efficient to transfer to another form of transport in Tampere. The ticket needs to be validated using a ticket reading machine at the station. Lempäälä is located in zone C.
The other option is to buy a ticket through the VR application or the green, VR-branded ticket vending machine. This gives you the right to travel between the two stations, but is not valid in other Tampere regional transport.
There is fairly regular commuter train transport passing through Lempäälä. The commuter train R (Tampere-Helsinki) runs bihourly every day of the week from morning to around midnight, and the commuter train M runs bihourly from Monday to Friday to fill the two hour gap left by the train R.
The Intercity and Pendolino trains, (while being more expensive if bought from the VR app instead of Nysse,) make the connections more frequent by serving travelers between the running of the commuter trains.

[edit]- 1 Lempäälä Canal. This late-19th-century canal connects the lakes Vanajavesi and Pyhäjärvi. It used to be an important transport route, but nowadays it's used mostly by leisure boats and lake cruises in the summer.
