Llastres Voyage Tips and guide

You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

Llastres is a village in Asturias on the north coast of Spain. Its population is in decline, dipping below 700 in 2024, and its heyday was in the 16th / 17th century hunting whales for their oil. It has a charming old centre sloping steeply to the harbour. When the TV soap Doc Martin was re-made in Spanish in 2008 as Doctor Mateo, Llastres was the location, fictionalised as San Martín del Sella.

Do

[edit]
  • The beaches are exposed to the Bay of Biscay, so they're better for surfing and kite-surfing than swimming.
  • The nearest golf course is 20 km west at Villaviciosa.
  • Camino del Norte is one of the pilgrimage trails of El Camino converging on Santiago de Compostella. It was popular during Moorish rule as their control didn't stretch this far north. The local stages are from Ribadesella to Colunga (21 km), thence to Villaviciosa (18 km) where you can stay on this trail to Gijón or switch inland to Camino Primitivo from Oviedo.

Buy

[edit]

Only small shops here, nothing resembling a supermarket. A village institution is the fishmonger La Chucha, open Tu F Sa 09:00-13:00.
