See and do
[edit]A must do when in Montenegro:
- 1 Mausoleum of Njegoš (Lovćen National Park. A road goes almost up to the top, but the last bit is a 500 m staircase. You can also hike in from all directions.). 09:00-18:00. Climb up to Mount Lovćen, it is a kind of Montenegrin Mount Olympus. On the top of the mountain lies the magnificent mausoleum where the poet Petar II Petrović Njegoš is buried. The view is stunning, they say that on a clear day you can see Italy across the Adriatic sea. There is construction underway for a cable car from Kotor to Lovćen.
For hikers it might pose an option to get in before or after opening to enjoy the sunrise or sunset for free. €5 (in addition to the NP fee).
- Hike from Kotor to the Mausoleum. A nice 13-km day hike going from 0 to 1,700 m elevation, by the Fort of St. John, a nice and inexpensive restaurant half way, and the mausoleum as the climax.
