Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Forest is located on the eastern outskirts of Hyderabad city, adjacent to the Vijayawada National Highway 65, on an area of 3,800 acres, next to Autonagar. This forest is a dense forest area established by the last ruler of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, for hunting. It was declared a national forest in 1975 on the 2500th anniversary of the Nirvana of the Jain sage Mahavira. It is home to black deer, peacocks, wild boars, rabbits, various types of snakes, birds, and the Sita coca parrot. It has a special park for parrots. It also has many medicinal plants. The special trees in it resemble dense thickets. There are hostels for tourists' entertainment as well as accommodation.
