Of notable importance is the direct effect of the former Dutch colonial rule for nigh-on 300 years, which was very strong especially in the Manado area. This is noticed by the many Dutch loanwords (along with Dutch influences in some Manado family names) still found in Manado Indonesian.
Pronunciation guide
[edit]Manado Malay is a purely spoken language, and there is no official standard orthography. However, the language is closely related to standard official or 'high' Malay, and is rendered here using Malay spelling rules.
