Marielyst is a seaside resort on the island of Falster in Denmark, known for its long beautiful beaches and lovely city life both day and night. Marielyst is for both young people and families, and offers fun activities during the day, and good opportunities to cool off in water when it gets too hot.

    Understand

    [edit]

Although the permanent population is only about 725 (2021), there are over 6000 holiday summer homes.

Other localities along the beach are Eikenøre, Sildestrup, Stovby, Klit, and Bøtø with Marielyst at the centre. During the summer period, the population rises to over 50,000 in the high season, when the neighbouring settlements Bøtø, Elkenøre, Stovby and Sildestrup are included.

Behind the sand dunes along the beach, there is a dyke which was built at the end of the 19th century to protect the inland area from flooding, enabling it to be used for farming.

Enjoy the Marielyst's beach, which stretches 20 km (12 mi). The soft white sandy beach was judged to be particularly suitable for children.

A footpath (too narrow for bicycles) offers pleasant walks over the full 20-km stretch next to the sea.

Golf & Fun Park offers different forms of minigolf and various facilities for children. Other amusements include a go kart centre and a kite and windsurfing school. The folk high school, Højskolen i Marielyst, offers a variety of courses and music events in its fine concert hall which looks out over the sea.

Marielyst, built in the style of a Mediterranean resort, has a wide selection of hotels, restaurants, shops, holiday apartments and discothèques.
