Marlborough (Queensland) Voyage Tips and guide

Marlborough is a small town of 150 (2021) in Central Queensland along the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and Mackay. It doesn't have much going for it, but it is the only town for a decent bit as the section of highway between Rocky and Mackay contain a fair bit of nothingness and makes for a good place to break the drive.

Marlborough is 106 km north of Rockhampton on the A1 Bruce Hwy after which you'll approach an intersection (though do pay attention to signage – it's very easy to miss when driving at 100 km/h!) between Bruce Hwy, Marlborough Rd and Glenprarie Bypass Road. Turn right onto Glenprarie Bypass Rd and then onto Perkins Rd and Fossey Dr into Marlborough. If you're headed southbound, the drive is 230 km from Mackay and 173 km from Koumala. Instead turn left at Glenprarie Bypass Road and follow the same directions as if headed northbound (also pay attention to signage southbound, even more so than northbound, as it's very easy to miss at 110 km/h).

A train station exists but sees no scheduled rail services. Nonetheless it is still served by Greyhound, though there is not much of a reason to stop here if on Greyhound.

If you're on an extreme budget, they also provide the option to camp for only $5 to use the toilets and showers, though this is only recommended during the winter. $45/night (single) or $55/night (double). A Caltex is available on Perkins Road, but only has diesel, 91 and 98 octane (no E10/94 or 95). However, only use this in extreme circumstances – your wallet will thank you for filling up in Rockhampton or Mackay.
