Understand
[edit]
Methoni is 11 km south of Pylos and 11 km west of Foinikounta, with an area of 97.202 km2 (37.530 sq mi). Its name may be derived from Mothona, a mythical rock. The municipal unit of Methoni includes the nearby villages of Grizokampos, Foinikounta, Foiniki, Lachanada, Varakes, Kainourgio Chorio, Kamaria, Evangelismos, and the Oinnoussai Islands. The islands are Sapientza, Schiza, and Santa Marina; they form a natural protection for Methoni harbour.

Do
[edit]1 Methoni Beach. A sand beach with water that stays shallow quite a way out. The water is quite clear. There are a few sun beds with umbrellas, owned by one of the cafes, on the nearby square, but these don't take up much room. Nice views of the castle and the islands across the bay.
