Minervino Murge, also known as “Balcone delle Puglie” (balcony of Puglia) is a town of 7,800 people (2026) in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT) in the Italian region of Apulia, on the western flank of the Murgia Barese mountain chain. It lies largely within the borders of the Alta Murgia National Park.
Minervino Murge is characteristic for its old town. It is famous for its small streets, typical houses and the “house of the witch” (casa della strega) once inhabited by the infamous witch Eusapia Palladino and later on by her believed reincarnation, Cassandra. One of the streets is even named after her, and she is also known for a legend surrounding the famous “Grotta di San Michele”.
The town's economy is based mainly on agriculture and herding. The karstic geology of the area has conditioned its main crops: grapes, olives, wheat, and almonds.
