Monor is a city of 18,000 people (2018) in Pest County in Central Hungary. This article includes Gyömrő and Pilis.

[edit]- 1 Monor railway station (Monor vasútállomás). The Budapest – Cegléd – Szolnok railway line stops at Monor.
- By car, take the M3 motorway to M0 motorway further to M4.
- Ferenc Liszt International Airport is the nearest airport.
Pilis is also on the Budapest-Cegléd-Záhony rail line, close to Monor.

- Strázsa mountain cellars (Strázsa-hegyi pincesor), where 98 architecturally valuable, the original (cellar vaults covered with earth) have survived in their 19th-century condition.
- local history exhibit former pharmacy built in 1850s (address: Kossuth L. u. 86/a.),
- Walnut sculpture of St. Urban, Assumption church (Nagyboldogasszony templom, late Baroque style, built in 1800-1806),
- Vigadó building, which today functions as a cultural centre (Kossuth Lajos és Ady Endre utca corner, 1909),
- Angel fountain (Luther tér, before Lutheran church).
- Reformed Great Church. Using the foundations of the former church, built in 1630, it was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1702, and then expanded in 1773. It received its present form and eclectic style in 1882.
- Roman Catholic church. The church dedicated to the Assumption was built in the classicising late Baroque style between 1800 and 1806. Part of the church's furnishings - the pulpit, the benches, the tabernacle - were built in the second half of the 18th century.
- The statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands in a small booth on a columnar pedestal. It was built in 1842 and placed next to the Catholic church in 1925.
Pilis
[edit]- 1 Pilis Town Hall, Kossuth Lajos út 47. M 08:00-18:00, W Th 08:00-12:00. A folk architecture monument, former village inn. Single-storey corner house built in classicist style with some romantic decoration.
- Evangelical Church, the baroque church was built in several stages in the late 18th century (Hu: Loc.:Kossuth út 34., Phone: +36 29 498134 [email protected]).
- Beleznay-Nyáry Mansion mansion built in 1717, a precious monumental building. The building is an outstanding example of theresian baroque mansion architecture. Staying in the middle of a significant size park. The two-storey main building connecting co-towers on both sides. Today housing a primary school. - One of the most popular public areas of the city is the Little Lake and its surroundings. The lake with rich wildlife and the nearly 8-hectare area around it has an illuminated promenade crossing the Lake Park, an extreme cycling track, an outdoor training park, and piers in the lake. The playground is a popular venue for family visitors.
Pilis
[edit]- Gerje Stream, a nature conservation area. The source region of the Gerje stream located on Fen peatlands, one of the very rare lowland resources. Between the water and fresh vegetation can be find some unique orchid varieties and Central Europe's largest contiguous forest of alders, also can you see here a number of protected birds such as the mallard duck, water fowl and reed bunting (Hu: Loc.:Pilis center from Hwy 4. about hundred meters away.
