Understand
[edit]The National Capital Region is a rural-urban region, with a population of over 4,60,69,000, about one out of 28 people in India. As well as the cities and towns, the NCR contains ecologically sensitive areas like the Aravalli ridge, forests, wildlife and bird sanctuaries.
Get in
[edit]By plane
[edit]The Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL IATA) is the main airport serving the NCR. The Hindon Airport (HDO IATA) in Ghaziabad serves some regional flights, although it is originally intended to be a stopgap for the congestion at DEL.
By train
[edit]New Delhi NR (NDLS), Delhi Junction NR (DLI) and Hazrat Nizamuddin NR (NZM) are the "Big Three" railway stations of Delhi, as well as the whole NCR. The Anand Vihar Terminal NR (ANVT) at Delhi-Ghaziabad border is a major transit hub of railways, metro and RRTS.
Get around
[edit]By metro
[edit]
The Delhi Metro is considered the modern lifeline of Delhi, as well as the NCR. Other than that, the Noida Metro serves the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida. On the other hand, the Rapid Metro Gurgaon is a light metro system serving the satellite town of Gurgaon.
By RRTS
[edit]Namo Bharat is an RRTS network operating between Delhi and other satellite towns. It is faster than the existing local trains. As of 2025, only the Delhi–Meerut Delhi–Meerut stretch of the network is operational.
By local train
[edit]The Delhi Suburban Railway provides limited commuter services on Delhi NCR's railways, and the facilities are a far cry from the user-friendly metro stations. For the most part, the railway stations are inconveniently located. There is no passenger service on the Delhi Ring Railway outside rush hour.
