There are over 150 national parks in Thailand. These national parks range from tropical forests, waterfalls, caves and marine parks.

National parks in Thailand fall under the the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, formed in 2002, which is a division under the MInistry of Environment and Natural Resources.

The Department of National Parks has an official site for national parks in both English and Thai.

Northern Thailand

The part of Thailand with the most national parks. Home to the country's highest mountains but also many beautiful waterfalls and caves. Generally the best time to visit this area is during the dry season when the weather is cool and rain is not a problem.

Although not as famous as those in other parts of the country, national parks in Issan have their own charm. Unique rock formations, ancient rock murals and many caves and waterfalls and with much less crowds.

Central Thailand

There are three national parks in Central Thailand, two in Saraburi and one in Suphanburi. Central Thailand has the fewest national parks in the country.

Western Thailand

All provinces in the Western Thailand have at least one national park. One of the most wildlife-rich and diverse parts of Thailand with mountains in the northern parts, waterfalls and lakes in the middle part and relatively large caves in the southern part. Many of the national parks in the area are part of the Western Forest Complex, one of the largest protected territories in Southeast Asia.
