Newport is a small city in the Rocky Mountain foothills of northeast Washington State, on the border with Idaho. It is the county seat of Pend Oreille County.

  • 2 Manresa Grotto, 6196 LeClerc Rd N, Cusick (on the Kalispel Reservation near Usk, on the east side of the Pend Oreille River). A very unusual-looking cave, sacred to the Kalispel people. Near Ione and Metaline Falls

  • 3 Crawford State Park, 425 Gardner Cave Rd, Metaline Falls (11 mi (18 km) north of Metaline near SR 31, follow signs for park), +1 509-446-4065, . A day-use park which is mostly about seeing Gardner Cave, the third-largest limestone cave in Washington.   • 4 Lions Excursion Train, 101 Railroad Ave, Ione (depot is at the end of Main St), +1-509 442-5466, . A sightseeing ride in four-wheel railroad bikes, hugging cliffs and crossing trestles along the Pend Oreille river. Spectacular sights. Takes about 2 hours. Operated by the local Lions Club.
